Do you think of yourself as a human being or a human doing?

This is a two part question, so I will be splitting the answer, DUH!

First part, Do you think of yourself as a human being or a human doing?

I identify as a spiritual being having a human experience. I honestly feel that the spirit has been on this hamster wheel multiple times, observing the behind the scenes of what we do, think, believe and feel. Our spirit has existed many times before this human life and will continue to exist after our present physical life becomes no more.

Now with that being said, I think that most people live a life of labels. If you ask the normal every day person "Who are you?" instead of getting a definition about who they are, you are going to get a list of labels; I am a girl, a boy, cisgendered, transgendered, asexul, I am blankety blank years old, I am so & so's daughter, son, husband, wife, mother, cousin, etc, I am an accountant, bridge player, hockey coach, I am and a list of physical attributes - none of which tell you who they actually are.

I am me, no ifs ands or buts about it. I can give you my label list, but often times that gets confusing, so here is a short list:
  • A Girl
  • John & Peggy's Daughter
  • Theresa's sister
  • Lucas' aunt
  • Aaron's cousin (and so many more)
  • James' fiance
  • A Witch
  • A glitter collector
  • A glitter flinger
  • Tele-receptionist/Customer Service Agent/Conversion Specialist
None of these things helps you understand who I am, but they do help you understand me.

Second part, Do you identify yourself by the things you do?

I do often refer to myself by my labels or rather by the things I do, but it is for simplicity sake. Because when someone asks "Who are you?" Telling them that I am a spiritual being currently having a human experience and loving steak & potatoes, glitter, wings and fairy dust; will often get you strange looks, if not a trip to the looney bin.

And while I would love a vacation in a padded room with some really good meds, I'm not sure the person that would emerge would be me, so I play along with society's small talk is good talk unless I'm here or with certain peeps.
