Suicide Squad

Director: David Ayer

Actors: Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie

MPAA rating: PG13

Running time: 123 minutes

Tagline: Justice has a bad side.

Fearing that the world is vulnerable to otherworldly threats, the Government enlists the disposable Task Force X on a high-risk mission in exchange for absolution: Meanwhile, the Joker operates his own agenda.

I picked this movie because HARLEY QUINN!!! DUH!!!

What I liked the Most? The first prison scene with Harley aka aerial yoga with sheets

What I liked the Least? OMG - this movie had a shit ton of back story (it was evi designed for someone like Bunny)

Review: Ok, so my review may not be popular. Oops! But I for one, wasn't as happy with Suicide Squad as I wanted to be with it. I didn't hate it, I just didn't love it.

Most of the characters are big, colorful, wondermous, and would have been UBER fun to watch if the movie flowed BETTER. So many people have said so and so should have gotten more screen time and while I agree with that to a point, I understand it's impossible to get everyone up on the big screen in equal shares. Characters were either treated major flashbacks (Harley, Deadshot) or left in obscurity (Boomarang, Katana). The shear amount of trivial side plots and flashbacks really makes the plot a freaking mess. And TBH, I personally didn't care for over half of the Squad.

  • Boomarang - other than he has a unicorn fetish, I didn't give a blasted nickel
  • Flagg - hard ass moron thinking with his pecker
  • Waller - while I get having a female uber politico, she sucked donkey ass
  • Dr Moore (not to be confused with Enchantress lol) - *sigh* really? really?
  • Katana - the most interesting bit of trivia was totally lost to Flagg's lackluster parrot of the fact

Now don't get me wrong, there's chemistry between SOME of the characters. The best being between Harley and Deadshot, this combo was really well developed and extremely electric, funny, and downright entertaining, and the worst being the driving factor love interest between Flagg and Dr Moore, which felt forced, bland and well TBEH yucky.

And while I adore music in general and find it plays a big roll in any movie, this time it was a MASSIVE issue. Every character has a cool theme song (that plays almost every time they are on the screen and that includes scenes with MULTIPLE characters), the tracks are extremely loud, and play over the dialogue, over key scenes and well TBH over the whole damn movie. Or so it felt like to me.

The fight scenes had some amazing potential, but petered out (for the most part - the Good Guy/Bad Guy/Bomb! is the exception). I mean CGI blackberry headed monsters made from magical goop that either collapse at a touch or survive 14 thousand shots. Blarg! And can someone please explain to me, how a chick with a bat can stand next to to a guy who controls freaking FIRE! It's just implausible to believe that Harley is even needed in the group and that is saying a lot because Margot made the movie for me!

And speaking of Harley, I never thought I'd say it, but this film really shouldn't have included the Joker. Jared Leto should have either gotten his own movie or his scenes massively cut to just the flashbacks/jail break, because he is a major scene stealer. His other appearances felt forced and simply made no sense in the context of the plot.

But all in all, it's still a fun movie to watch, even if it doesn't stand up to the fun flow of the trailer. Watch with mindset that you are gonna look for the corny jokes and laugh, ignore the BLARG, and by all means, ignore Flagg & Waller at every turn.

Movie: Hotel Transylvania 2

Director: Genndy Tartakovsky

Actors: Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez

MPAA rating: PG

Running time: 89 minutes

Tagline: They're back to raise a little terror
The Drac pack is back for an all-new monster comedy adventure in Sony Pictures Animation's Hotel Transylvania 2! Everything seems to be changing for the better at Hotel Transylvania... Dracula's rigid monster-only hotel policy has finally relaxed, opening up its doors to human guests. But behind closed coffins, Drac is worried that his adorable half-human, half-vampire grandson, Dennis, isn't showing signs of being a vampire. So while Mavis is busy visiting her human in-laws with Johnny - and in for a major cultural shock of her own - "Vampa" Drac enlists his friends Frank, Murray, Wayne and Griffin to put Dennis through a "monster-in-training" boot camp. But little do they know that Drac's grumpy and very old, old, old school dad Vlad is about to pay a family visit to the hotel. And when Vlad finds out that his great-grandson is not a pure blood - and humans are now welcome at Hotel Transylvania - things are going to get batty!
I picked this movie because I didn't, it was Bunny's pick

What I liked the Most? Winnie (she is my favorite)

What I liked the Least? I personally didn't like the message through most of the movie about being "normal" is the best thing

Review: This sequel to the 2012 original film is a monster mash, but unfortunately it's not a graveyard smash. It's a very watchable family friendly flick for the Halloween season.

Hotel Transylvania 2 tells the story of Dracula, who is now more open-minded with his relationship with human beings, or at least pretending to be for Mavis' sake. While things are going great on the business side, Dracula aka Vampa is worried about his family with most of that worry about half-vampire/half-human grandson Dennis. Dennis hasn't shown any signs of being a vampire. Mavis believes that the castle may not to be the best place to raise a human child, so she wants to visits her in-laws place in California with her husband Jonathan (and his back pack) to see if that's a good place to relocate. Dracula fearing that he would miss out on raising his grandson tries to push Dennis to let his inner monster out. Then Mavis will have to change her mind about moving.

Will Vampa be successful with his shenanigans or will Mavis move to California? You gotta watch the movie to find out!

Without spoiling the movie, my personal opinion is that this movie was somewhat disappointing. Yeah, there are some positive messages about family unity, tolerance and diversity, BUT I found Mavis to be a bit shallow and disappointing. Jonathan doesn't want to move because he loves the Hotel, but she doesn't EVEN consider his side of things. Not to mention, there is a lack of social commentary (unless you count all the product ads) and funny humor that made the first movie shine so well. And I missed the music aspect! My favoritist role has got to be Winnie, I love her sense of self.

The whole dramatic flip ending with Vlad was extremely anticlimatic and really comes out of left field. It simply wasn't believable, how does an extremely prejudiced vampire, change his views in roughly two minutes just because his great-grandson is half-human. It felt very cheap & unreal.

Summation: Hotel Transylvania 2 doesn't reach the same epicness that 1 did, it's still a great Halloween treat.

Movie: Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast

Director: Steve Loter

Actors: Ginnifer Goodwin, Mae Whitman, Rosario Dawson

MPAA rating: G

Running time: 76 minutes

Fun and talented animal fairy Fawn believes you can't judge a book by its cover, or an animal by its fangs, so she befriends a huge and mysterious creature known as the NeverBeast. While Tinkerbell and her friends aren't so sure about this scary addition to Pixie Hollow, the elite Scout Fairies set out to capture the monster before he destroys their home. Fawn must trust her heart and take a leap of faith if she hopes to rally the girls to save the NeverBeast.

I picked this movie because It's a Tinkerbell movie - DUH!!!

What I liked the Most? This one was about Fawn

What I liked the Least? I'm not into spoilers so I won't tell you

Review: Okay, first let's address the fact that calling this a Tinkerbell movie is a bit of a stretch cause Tink is a supporting cast member and it was all Fawn! And while some cynical adults would be a bit irritated with her tendency to chatter on and on (Bunny kept telling her to shut up, like she could hear him lol). I think she is grand - chatty & happy & oh so loving. Hmmm, perhaps too loving and easy going. Considering that Pixies have a major issue with hawks trying to chase & eat them. So what does Fawn do, she finds an injured baby hawk and secretly nurses it back to health and then it wreaks havoc across Pixie Hollow. And this led to a collision course with the fairy Scout police and most especially the very impatient scout leader Nyx.

So Fawn promises to be good, but that promise is challenged, when she chances upon the Neverbeast. I loved the throw back to the lion and the mouse fable of my youth FYI. At first, the NeverBeast just seems like a grumpy old walaby, but it turns out that the he holds the very fate of Pixie Hollow in its paws. And the pieces that we have seen are not looking so good. Nyx has found something that makes it look like that sweet old baby is going to destroy everything that the fairies hold dear.

Movie: Into the Woods

Director: Rob Marshal

Actors: Anna Kendrick, Meryl Streep, Chris Pine

MPAA rating: PG

Running time: 125 minutes

A witch tasks a childless baker and his wife with procuring magical items from classic fairy tales to reverse the curse put on their family tree.

I picked this movie because: well I wanted to watch it because hello Johnny Depp & amazeballs, but my sister actually picked it out

What I liked the Most? Can I say everything? Because seriously the whole freaking movie was arghhhhh!! I loved it! But if I can only pick one thing - Agony!

What I liked the Least? hehe - someone could have told the rest of them it was a musical

Review: Okay, well evidently no one in my viewing party knew that this was a play first, and a musical to boot. This is cinematic version of the play (with some changes) so by that thought pattern it is not some animated Disney movie. I think that's what my family was expecting. I on the other hand knew that it was a musical play first (Thanks Gilmore Girls lol)

For an adaption of the play it is truly breath taking - the cast was stunning, the music amazing, and the scenery is over the top impressive.

All in all it was a magical afternoon for me.

Joyful Noise

Movie: Joyful Noise

Director: Todd Graff
Actors: Dolly Parton, Queen Latifah, Keke Palmer
MPAA rating: PG13
Running time: 118 mins
Tagline: Dream a whole lot louder

"Joyful Noise" is the story of a small town choir out to win a national competition despite overwhelming odds. A story of faith and determination by the choir leaders (Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton) and the young talent who give their all to win God's praise and beat the competition for the grand prize.

I picked this movie because Mom recommended it

What I liked the Most? Jeremy Jordan – from his entrance to taking off his shirt to his amazing voice

What I liked the Least? This movie bit off too many problems to handle (poor economy, marriage struggles, death, teenage angst, love)

Review: I enjoyed the majority of the movie, but felt that it got really preachy at times with Queen Latifah leading the charge and I found that to be too ironic for words. However I enjoyed the rest of the movie and found Dolly (a little stiff) but enjoyable no matter what.

Tagline: A civilized weapon for uncivilized times

In a world with no guns, a mysterious drifter, a bartender and a young samurai plot revenge against a ruthless leader and his army of thugs, headed by nine diverse and deadly assassins.

I picked this movie because Redbox was running low on movies I haven’t seen lol

What I liked the Most? the fight scenes – truly spectacular

What I liked the Least? Not too terribly original

Review: This movie proved to be a major surprise for me. Why is it the ones I put thought into picking out turn out be duds but when I just pick a movie it turns out to be something truly amazing. The story is fast paced, with some outrageous fight sequences that mimic dancing. It is amazingly difficult to describe this movie, truly it is.

The heart of the story is simple, it’s the tale of hero strangers rolling into an oppressed town and chaos ensuing. It was like watching a pop up book come to life.

Veteran Agent J (Will Smith) must travel back in time to 1969 to before the murder and work with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save him, the Agency, the Earth and humanity itself.

I picked this movie because: Dad did, for his father's day present

What I liked the Most? the snark

What I liked the Least? the slime gags got old

Review Ok, so I always take my dad to see a movie on or around father's day for his present and this year he picked MIB3. And I must say, while I would have waited to see it at home, I enjoyed it.

I felt that the jokes were a little stale (I'm not a fan of slime) and I figured out the surprise ending early on, but all in all it was a very pleasant afternoon spent with 2 of my favorite guys. The most pleasant surprise of the movie was the Unicorn. I would totally watch this movie again just to be blessed with Griff's magical take on life. It truly is amazing.

I picked this movie because It was a Redbox special

What I liked the Most? The concept was awesome

What I liked the Least? Jumpy

Review: I’m not sure why this movie was treated so badly by critics, because it was awesome.

Chris Evans really rose to the occasion as Nick, he mixed his trademark snarky attitude with delicious melancholy depression. And can we say wow to Ms Dakota Fanning. She is definitely growing up. The adolescent future teller using black paper & colored pens was genius.

And while I’m at it – let’s can the comparison to Jumper. Jumper was filled with cheap imitation while Push gets you talking when the movie goes off.

I picked this movie because the T, BF borrowed it from the rents and I didn’t have anything else to watch

What I liked the Most? the southern charm

What I liked the Least? abso nothing

Review: Holy crap! How did I miss this movie for so freaking long? I was sucked into this tale of murder & southern charm from the very being. Cheering when The Lady Chablis made her entrance and loving every southern drawl.

I must say that the “whodunit” part didn’t really snag my attention, it was the interaction of the characters that drove this story for me. I loved “Yankee John”s interaction with the rest of the cast. Truly a magnificent movie for the casting alone.

Movie: Jack & Jill

Director: Dennis Dugan
Actors: Adam Sandler, Katie Holmes, & Al Pacino
MPAA rating:
Running time: 91 mins
Tagline: His twin sister is coming for the holidays and it ain’t pretty

Jill and Jack (also Mr. Sandler, obviously) are twins separated by a continent and a chasm of luck, achievement and social status. When Jill arrives from the Bronx to spend Thanksgiving at her brother’s gorgeous Los Angeles home, her presence provokes a steady barrage of rage and disgust. She is dumb — she doesn’t know what the Internet is! — crude and physically grotesque, and also loud and needy. She leaves sweat stains on the bed and talks in a high-pitched nasal singsong, broadcasting her feelings at maximum volume.

I picked this movie because it was on Redbox

What I liked the Most? the concept

What I liked the Least? the over the top reactions to Jill

Review: Over all this was a funny movie about finding love no matter what, but it was a little over blown for my tastes. I will say the commercial at the end of the movie was worth the whole thing.

Movie:In Time

Director: Andrew Niccol
Actors: Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried and Cillian Murphy
MPAA rating: PG 13
Running time: 109 mins
Tagline: Time is Money

Welcome to a world where time has become the ultimate currency. You stop aging at 25, but there's a catch: you're genetically-engineered to live only one more year, unless you can buy your way out of it. The rich "earn" decades at a time (remaining at age 25), becoming essentially immortal, while the rest beg, borrow or steal enough hours to make it through the day. When a man from the wrong side of the tracks is falsely accused of murder, he is forced to go on the run with a beautiful hostage. Living minute to minute, the duo's love becomes a powerful tool in their war against the system.

I picked this movie because Preview looked interesting

What I liked the Most? the concept behind

What I liked the Least? everything else

Review: Hmmm, stop aging at 25 then buy every other moment, plus you use your time to purchase EVERYTHING. Sounds like a truly spectacular concept. Those rich in “money” at the switch over point are now rich in “time”, and the poor are barely scraping by. So as a concept – totally rocking.

In action, it was a major let down. Good guy from the wrong side of the tracks, Will, is given a century by some dude that has lived too long with the message “Don’t waste my time”. And then the movie goes down hill. I did however enjoy the way you could tell Will was from a different Time Zone by the way he moved, always doing things just a little faster than every one else in Richtown.

MPAA rating: PG 13
Running time: 113 mins
Tagline: This is our time

City kid Ren MacCormack moves to a small town where rock 'n' roll and dancing have been banned, and his rebellious spirit shakes up the populace.

I picked this movie because I love dancing movies

What I liked the Most? All the different dance styles

What I liked the Least? Oh – so many things: the angry dance, Willard, PD’s slut factor

Review: Yes it’s tragic that a car load of kids got themselves killed, but HELLO it was the booze not the dancing. I agree with the curfew & banning underage drinking, but I still don’t understand why they banned dancing (didn’t the first time around either lol). The plot is laughable cheese of the first degree, but amazingly manages to pull out drama. Well, there's never really a scene that moves past shallow, but there are moments where there appear to be real emotions

Tagline: The perfect love story... with a high body count

But when they run into a group of preppy college kids who assume from their looks that they must be in-bred, chainsaw wielding killers, Tucker & Dale's vacation takes a bloody & hilarious turn for the worse.

I picked this movie because I liked Alan Tudyk in Serenity

What I liked the Most? I laughed so freaking hard

What I liked the Least? Nothing really

Review: This is a really entertaining twist on 'teens in the woods' horror flicks and I don’t mean in a Scary Movie kinda way. This movie takes an awesome idea and knocks it totally out of the park. It’s inventive and fresh with a beautiful heart. The casting is superb. Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk are the "Hillbillies" in this hilarious tale of prejudice and paranoia. They delivered performances that are grounded, authentic, and interesting. They are never in jeopardy of becoming stereotypical ignorant rednecks. Instead they have a great deal of wit.

What I liked the Least? The anger

Review: Hugo is a movie that you will either love or hate. I personally loved it. I laughed, I cried, I cheered. I was sucked into this magical train station and it’s daily inhabitants. I really enjoyed the romances that carried on in the background of the “real” tale. After all, this is a place your dreams can come true.

I think what makes this movie is the constant sound track, even when there is something else going on. The score guy made this movie unforgettable.

I love Milla. Even in this movie, she's still Milla. She's fit (must say I’m in lust with the way her body moves & seriously considering getting to the gym more often just on the off chance I could move like that one day), she handles the ass kicking role better than anyone else and she does it while looking incredibly hot in color changing clothes & hair (how freaking awesome would that be?!?!)

Review: Up front – there is no intellectual challenge in this movie but there isn’t supposed to be. It’s designed (perfectly might I add) to ENTERTAIN!!! Everyone looks like they had a blast making this movie, but Natalie (Cameron Diaz) steals the show for me totally! And I love the fact they the stars did (the majority) of their own stunts. You ladies ROCK!
