How to Make a Bath Bag

Select any combination of four to five of the suitable bath herbs. All of these herbs can be easily grown in a home garden or ordered from a supplier:

Calendula
Peppermint
Chamomile
Rosemary
Comfrey
Rose
Garden Sage
Spearmint
Lavender
Thyme
Lemon
Grass
Yarrow

Blend in equal parts. Select material for making bags. These can be odd socks, knee-high nylons, hand-sewn bags, or pieces of muslin - whatever works best for you. Cotton washcloths work well filled with herbs and tied with a rubber band and ribbon. These make great party favours or shower gifts.

Use dark-coloured washcloths as some of the herbs may stain a light-coloured fabric. Add a handful of herbs to each bag. A handful is the one measuring device that I always have near and it never varies! For centuries this was used when nothing else was available. I have even seen old pioneer cookbooks where ingredients are measured in handful, child handful, and doll handful.

To use the bag of bath herbs, tie it on the water spout while the tub is filling, or toss in like a big tea bag. Scrub yourself with the bag and squeeze it often to release the oils from the herbs.
