Family Fun & Adventure

So my Mom's family has been doing this family trip to the beach for a little R&R for about
3 years now.

And this weekend was the winning weekend.

Friday

Everyone else (mostly) took off for the beach on Thursday.
Bunny & I packed up Thursday day, but we both had to work Thursday night,
so we got out of the homestead Friday morning.

NightShade is ready to roll - with tea & coffee!

We got on the road around 10:30ish and the drive was beautiful!
No problems with road ways what so ever
which is saying something cause Hurricane Matthew done torn up some of NC ya'll.

Got to the campground around 1ish
(I guess, I was actually asleep in the passenger seat so not sure of the time)

As you can see, there were 3 campers in our group.
Aunt Weez's Family in the pull behind
(the cousin & his crew came too - totally awesome - they've missed years gone by)
The Rents in the center
(Sissy & her posse stayed with them)
And Ney's gang in the pull behind/pop out

Not picture is the other tent campers - Eva, Ronnie & Cookie

The view from where we sat up at was breath taking
and I'll let you know why in a bit.

So we got our site set up, let me tell you
this Coleman 4 person dome tent has seen it all!
From the beaches to the mountains, from Florida to DC.
It is the perfect pack it up and go tent!

Since it's Halloween Season - I had to bring along some type of deco.
Even if I'm the only one - last year it was a skull & lights.
Look at my little witch - ain't she just the cutest!

Check out the beauty of this sunset.

So dinner time rolls around and we are having steaks, baked potatoes & salads.
Typical camp food fare.

Several of us were arguing about the weather because various apps had different weather forecasts.
Mine said rain from 7pm to 8pm, Bunny's said mostly the same thing.
One cousin had 9pm for about 30 minutes. And another had crystal clear all night long.
Accuweather.com you guys were right one the money, but for once I wish you had been wrong.
At 7:05pm the first couple of drops hit and I ain't ever seen my family move that fast, they had tables cleared, food put up, awnings slamming shut, chairs stacked under the campers by 7:15pm and everyone under cover by 7:20pm.

And then HOLY HEL - the wind!

It twas terrible I tell you, just terrible.
It got so bad that Bunny & I had to collapse the tent just to keep it from tearing and jump in the car.
Divo was beyond terrified, and truth be told, I was too!
It felt like it went on for days, but it was a short little burst storm
(with winds gusting upwards of 39 miles per hour)
that was mostly over by 8:30pm.
Sure put paid to heading to Nightmare Factory Friday night - let me tell you.

By the time the majority of the storm had passed,
we decided to take a chance on putting the tent back up.
And while it held up, my little baby sure got battered a bit.
We ended up taking a drive up Highway 24 just to run the heater for a bit
a) to warm up and b) to calm the fuck down
cause that was beyond scary!!!!

When we got back to the campground, we hit the showers and then the sack completely exhausted!

Saturday

But woke up to this amazing view and it was totally worth it.

After breakfast, we decided to hit up a store for some B-Day cards
as 2 of our junior campers had birthdays this weekend.
Cruised a bit north, trying to locate a Wally World or something similar.

Some of the views on the drive to the store

Finally found a Wally World and was able to get cards & a talking toilet for the nephew,
then hit a Lowe's so the Bunny could replace his smokey tube.

And then I found Nirvana!

AKA HappyCakes Cupcakery
Yes! The very same HappyCakes that won CupCake Wars in 2013!
Check out the review over here.

Well I had to go in, and I just had to purchase some, and well that leads to the eating of the cupcakes.
But OH SO WORTH EVERY CALORIE!!!!

I picked up a dozen so everyone could try them.

After a chocolate overload (but oh so yummy) - I knew I needed to work it off.
So I grabbed the puppers and headed off for a walk.

We walked up to the store, then down to the pier (where our Bunny was fishing)

Then back over to the Rents camper where the Daddy-O was taking a nap in the sunlight while wearing his manipries! Then I decided a nap would be a good idea.

Such a pretty night - guess we deserved it after last night!

And we totes deserved the FIRST HAUNT of 2016!!!!
With the weather being all kinds of whacky here in NC - we haven't been able to hit a single house!
But our bad luck streak ended tonight!!

Oh yes indeed! It's Nightmare Factory time!
We always make a point to hit this haunt if we are in the area during season.

OMG so much fun!!!!

Sunday

Got up early this morning and packed up the gear (cause we both gotta work tonight)!
Then went over to join the family for breakfast.

After breakfast, we loaded up and got Lampward Bound!

Divo was entirely ready to head home - he'd had enough of being away from his den.
