And what else could go wrong?

For those of you who are "in the know" about what is going on in my life, skip this post unless you want a rehash. In the course of this year everything has just fallen apart, now I could be fatalistic/judgmental and raise my fist up to Mercury and curse his path - but he is only part of the problem.

Okay - 1st DH lost his job, it was through his own stupidity I will admit that. He should have paid attention to what was going on & he didn't. So he filed for unemployment and he got it. And he hasn't done a thing since then, expect try to figure out exactly how stupid he could be in one month - video games & booze. That's all he wanted to do.

And that leads into the 2nd point, his drinking. He went way overboard and showed his ass one too many times so I walked out. Packed my car with some clothes & my chichi puppy and left. Last time it was a $200 bar tab that he swears he only had a beer or two. So I focused on my job, right.

Point 3 - here we come - my company is being massively screwy right now. From changing us over to an insurance company that no doctor is town takes (seriously I took all the papers to my doctors office - he's supposedly on the list - the office submitted all the proper forms and what not & yep - still not taking that insurance how nice) & if that's not all - dealing with all the issues about computers & schedules & calls & inconsiderate coworkers - my blood pressure went into the sky sky sky around the fourth of july-ly-ly. Ohhh, betraying my age there. LOL. (Side note - on the fourth I had a Aunt that basically just dropped to the ground and started twitching, it was over 2 weeks before the doctor's said ahhhh - she has a chemical imbalance.)

Number 4 - coworkers who don't know their heads from their behinds - Do not sit on your throne and expect me to kiss your fat behind cause you the "Team Leader". I will continue doing what I do best - what is that you may wonder - showing your ass up. I can do everything better than you, seriously I can. Test me. Try working once in awhile & maybe just maybe you'll see what I am talking about. But then that would require you to do something other than complain right? Too much effort. See here's how I see it - I am taking an active role in our company's transition. So if I wanna say (after months of dealing with crazy emails & whacked out instructions that don't tell you how to do something) this is sooooo crazy. I have earned that right. I am in the trenches getting my hands dirty and handling every issue that comes up.

And you guessed right - next issue, it's 5 and it's alive - it's 2 words / COMPANY TRANSITION / really people its not rocket science. We sit at computers all dang day and talk on the phone. No matter what else happens. Just follow the pretty little screen - it took me a month to figure out what to do with all those boxes and numbers and what nots. We can't stay where we were and this is what we were giving to work with. Next.

And then, on top of everything else number 6 one little 6-letter word that has struck fear, anger, and tears into the hearts of my family. Cancer. Yep - I typed that right - my mom was diagnosed with Colon Cancer and from what we know right now - it is probably too far to be treatable. Or at least that's what she told me yesterday. I still say I wanna wait for the Dr's full report before I fall apart, but it's not easy holding on any more. Now I would not hestitate to say that a lot of our fear is most likely the result of a lack of knowledge.

You know what -

I haven't been doing broadcasting anyone's giveaway. But I seriously want to let everyone know about the great charm bracelet that the lovely Park Avenue Princess Amy is giving away. Check it out!

Photobucket

She reviewed a charm bracelet from the Charm Factory and she loved it, so now she has a bracelet with Eight (8) Sterling Silver Charms that you get to pick from the thousands of charms they have at Charm Factory and they'll put it on a bracelt for you! How cool is that.

Book: The Lost Symbol

Dan Brown
Fiction
Double Day / 2009
Hard Back / 509 Pages
Series: Robert Langdon #3

In this stunning follow-up to the global phenomenon The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown demonstrates once again why he is the world's most popular thriller writer. The Lost Symbol is a masterstroke of storytelling -- a deadly race through a real-world labyrinth of codes, secrets, and unseen truths . . . all under the watchful eye of Brown's most terrifying villain to date. Set within the hidden chambers, tunnels, and temples of Washington, D.C., The Lost Symbol accelerates through a startling landscape toward an unthinkable finale.

As the story opens, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned unexpectedly to deliver an evening lecture in the U.S. Capitol Building. Within minutes of his arrival, however, the night takes a bizarre turn. A disturbing object -- artfully encoded with five symbols -- is discovered in the Capitol Building. Langdon recognizes the object as an ancient invitation . . . one meant to usher its recipient into a long-lost world of esoteric wisdom.

When Langdon's beloved mentor, Peter Solomon -- a prominent Mason and philanthropist -- is brutally kidnapped, Langdon realizes his only hope of saving Peter is to accept this mystical invitation and follow wherever it leads him. Langdon is instantly plunged into a clandestine world of Masonic secrets, hidden history, and never-before-seen locations -- all of which seem to be dragging him toward a single, inconceivable truth.

As the world discovered in The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, Dan Brown's novels are brilliant tapestries of veiled histories, arcane symbols, and enigmatic codes. In this new novel, he again challenges readers with an intelligent, lightning-paced story that offers surprises at every turn. The Lost Symbol is exactly what Brown's fans have been waiting for . . . his most thrilling novel yet.

I picked this book up because I've been crazy to read the next saga.

What I liked the Most? WOW - I can't pick one thing

What I liked the Least? The mystery part was a little weak - I figured it out before the book even got started.

Review:This is the latest book in the series and it has been hyped up for months if not years but once the hype dies down get ready to enjoy one of the best books of 2009. I just finished it and will be reading it again this year.

This time the setting is local - the good old Washington DC to be precise - where the good professor is on a flight for his life through the sub-basement of the Capitol to some very esteemed Washington addresses to the top of the Washington Monument. Dan gives us some great new adversaries and supporters with his characters whom he is intimately acquainted with make the novel exciting and impossible to put down. The plot is original and like that other lesser know novel that he wrote is full of ciphers, codes, science and great mysteries, he draws the reader into his story by filling it full of fact along with the fiction.

There's yet another shot at romance - this time with the enigmatic Dr. Katherine Solomon, does it succeed, well you'll just have to wait for the next book to find out. After all, Mr Brown is terrible about keeping a female lead.

The dialogue is fast paced and does not disappoint flying by with nail biting, heart thumping excitement. To all the so called "experts" who have bad mouthed this novel from even before publication I say to you "I don't know what book you read, because this book was a fun & thought provoking read". But find out for yourselves, don't let anyone tell you what to read and what to like - make your own choice.

Mabon Ritual

This Ritual is best performed during the early evening hours, just after Sunset, as this is the time of day which corresponds to the time of year. Sweep area, starting in the North and moving deosil, with your magickal broom to cleanse the Circle area and "sweep away" any lingering negative energies. Lay out the circumference of your Circle with cord, stones, etc., as necessary.

Set up the Quarter candles (North-Green, East-Yellow, South-Red, West-Blue) and/or other items symbolizing the elements at the Four Quarters (use a compass if not permanently marked out). Set up your altar as desired, and face it to the North, covering it with the red altar cloth. Place all of the items listed below in their proper places upon it. For this ceremony, decorate the altar with the cornucopia filled with harvest items, and whatever else feels right. In addition to your usual tools and props, upon the altar should be:
  • Red or Brown Altar Cloth
  • Cornucopia filled with Fruits and Vegetables of the Harvest
  • A Red Apple
  • Bolline or another Sharp Knife (for cutting the Apple)
  • Altar Pentacle or a Plate (to cut the apple on)
  • A Bell
  • A Second Wand decorated with Colored Ribbons (to use in the Demeter/Persephone portion of the ritual)
  • A Wicker Basket (to carry the Decorated Wand in)
  • Incense

When all is set up, take a shower or bath for purification and don your ritual robe or other ritual attire. Be sure to wear your magickal jewelry. Sit quietly and meditate for a little while - to ground and center before beginning the Ritual. When you feel ready to begin, play some quiet peaceful music for the ritual.

After the Circle is cast, begin the Mabon Sabbat Ceremony by sitting quietly for a few moments, then say these words aloud in dedication:
"Lady Autumn, Queen of the Harvest, I have seen You in the setting Sun, with Your long auburn tresses blowing in the cool air that surrounds You. Your crown of golden leaves is jeweled with amber, amethyst, and rubies. Your long, flowing purple robe stretches across the horizon. In Your hands You hold the ripened fruits. At Your feet the squirrels gather acorns. Black crows perch on Your outstretched arms. All around You the leaves are falling. You sit upon Your throne and watch the dying fires of the setting Sun shine forth its final colors in the sky. The purple and orange lingers and glows like burning embers. Then all colors fade into the twilight. Lady Autumn, You are here at last. I thank You for Your rewards. I have worked hard for these gifts. Lady Autumn, now grant me peace and rest."

Sit quietly again and reflect on the meaning of the Autumn Season for a little while.
When you are ready, pick up your wand and hold it in your power hand, face the North and with your arms outstretched (kneel or stand) and say:
"The Wheel of the Year turns on and on, bringing us all to and from each Season, and from and to another. What will be is. What was will be. All time is here and now in this Sacred Space. I now pause to watch the Wheel turn and cast this Circle on this blessed eve to celebrate the Season of Mabon, the Autumnal Equinox - the time of the Second Harvest. In this moment between time, I come to praise the bountiful aging Goddess and Her consort, the God of the Harvest. I wish to give thanks and feel myself as a part of the relentlessly turning wheel of life, death, and rebirth.
O Great God of Wine and the Harvest, who has been known as Mabon, Dionysus, Bacchus, and Thor - Grant me strength and understanding throughout this season and always.
O Great Goddess of the Harvest and the Underworld, who has been known as Demeter, Persephone, Modron, and Morgan - Teach me the secrets of the Mysteries and the ways of magick."
Place your wand back in its place on the altar.
Spread your hands out over the Harvest Altar and say these words:
"The time of change is upon us again - the Equinox comes, the Wheel turns...
The Goddess and the God prepare for Their journey to the Otherworld, as the Earth and all of Her children prepare for the time of quiet and reflection that lies ahead...
May I use this Autumnal period to seek for the strength and power within to assist me on my own quest for vision, feeling, and peace...
May I see and feel the presence of the Goddess and the God within, though without, the Earth begins Her slumber...
Keep me in Your light..."

Lower your arms and sit quietly meditating again for a while.
When you are ready, stand at your altar facing the North and raise your arms in greeting. Say:
"Between the worlds I build this sacred altar. Outside of time, this rite leads to the ancient way. Where I may find Demeter of high Olympus And conjure magick great. Be here, I say."

Place the decorated wand in the wicker basket and carry it to the North. Say:
"Persephone returns to the Underworld. Weep not, Earth Mother, For the Divine Child of love is here."

Carry the basket to the East; say:
"Persephone returns to the Underworld. Although the Light is fading, It shall return to the Earth."

Take the basket to the South; say:
"Persephone returns to the Underworld. The cold of winter comes, But only for a short time."

Finish by carrying the basket to the West; say:
"Persephone returns to the Underworld. The Earth shall lie in slumber Until the Light of this Divine Child Once more grows in strength and shines full upon us."

Place the basket on the floor before the altar. Ring the bell three times.
Take your bolline in your power hand and the apple in the other. Say:
"Reveal to me your hidden secrets That I may come to understand your sacred Mysteries."
Set the apple on the altar pentacle (or plate) and cut it crosswise (with the bolline) to reveal the pentagram in the core. Contemplate this hidden sacred symbol for several moments. Then say:
"In life is death, in death life. All must follow the sacred dance into the cauldron, Time after time, to die and be reborn. Help me to remember that Every beginning has an ending And that every ending has a new beginning."

Take a bite of the apple. What is left put outside later to share with the birds. Say:
"Holy Mother, Demeter, Comfort and protect me in my times of tribulation. Instruct me into the Mysteries. You, with your daughter Persephone, have the power To lead me to new understanding."

Now is the time for meditation and any spellworkings you may need or desire to end your Sabbat celebration. Appropriate Spellwork for Mabon include those for protection, wealth and prosperity, security and spells to bring a feeling of self-confidence. If no spellwork is to be done at this time, then proceed with the Cakes and Ale Ceremony, followed by Releasing the Sacred Circle.

What I liked the Most? Grandma rules!

What I liked the Least? Which guy would you choose?

Review:This series has an easy style of writing - comfortable and very readable. But the main key to such success is Stephanie, who's really Everywoman with an attitude. How can you resist a woman who wears guns, knives, pepper spray and a cell phone on her belt, yet admits to herself that if she spots the bad guy, she'd wet her pants and run screaming back into her apartment building?

With this book - the fifth in the series you get a topnotch experience that will make you piddle your pants while laughing. You really must read them in order because you get to know and like these characters and that background knowledge made the reading enjoyment that much better.

Stephanie Plum is back, and this time she's on the trail of Maxine Nowicki, an ex-waitress accused of stealing her ex-boyfriend's car. Helping Stephanie is former-prostitute-turned-backup Lula, puzzle solving transvestite singer Sally Sweet, mentor Ranger, and vice cop Joe Morelli. This one won't be easy though, as Stephanie's competing with her arch nemesis Joyce Barnhardt.

Oh, and she can't forget the little matter of someone trying to kill her. Again.

What I liked the Most? I love the running car gag - too brillant.

What I liked the Least? I figured this one out too fast.

Review:The chase is on in this page-turning book of mayhem! The regular cast of characters are back in action helping Stephanie (or is that harassing Stephanie). Her family (especially Grandma) add pizzazz, depth, and a whole of a lot of humor to this great plot.

This book also introduces Sally Sweet, a code-breaking transvestite 'drag queen" musician. Grandma Mazur comes right out and asks Sally what a drag queen does with his ding-dong and I died laughing. Stephanie's enemy, Joyce Barnhardt, also has a larger roll in this book, as the newest bounty hunter at the Vincent Plum bail bonds agency.

This book is truly hysterical, pages keep turning with the fast paced humor and wit. This is the best book yet in the series and I thought three was good. This series is highly recommended!

I am Meredith, princess of faerie, wielder of the hands of Flesh and Blood, and at long last, I am with child -- twins, fathered by my royal guard. Though my uncle, Taranis, King of Light and Illusion, claims that he is the true father since he abducted me from my home, betrayed, and defiled me. And now he has branded my guards as a threat to my unborn children.

Bearing an heir has placed me halfway to my aunt’s throne, that much closer to my reign over the Unseelie Court -- and well ahead of her son, my cousin Cel, in this race. Now I must stay alive to see my children born and claim my place as queen.

But not all in faerie are pleased with the news, and conspirators from every court in the realm plot against me and mine. They seek to strip my guards, my lovers, from me by poisoned word or cold steel. But I still have supporters, and even friends, among the goblins and the sluagh, who will stand by me.

I am Meredith Nic Essus, and those who would defy and destroy me are destined to pay a terrible price -- for I am truly my father’s daughter. To protect what is mine, I will sacrifice anything–even if it means waging a great battle against my darkest enemies and making the most momentous decision ever made as princess of faerie.

Review:This book is an emotional rollercoaster - happy, sad, laughing, crying......everything. The story line is perfectly complex and totally engrossing. I am Meredith Gentry, princess and heir apparent to the throne in the realm of faerie, onetime private investigator in the mortal world. To be crowned queen, I must first continue the royal bloodline and give birth to an heir of my own. If I fail, my aunt, Queen Andais, will be free to do what she most desires: install her twisted son, Cel, as monarch . . . and kill me.

My royal guards surround me, and my best loved–my Darkness and my Killing Frost–are always beside me, sworn to protect and make love to me. But still the threat grows greater. For despite all my carnal efforts, I remain childless, while the machinations of my sinister, sadistic Queen and her confederates remain tireless. So my bodyguards and I have slipped back into Los Angeles, hoping to outrun the gathering shadows of court intrigue. But even exile isn’t enough to escape the grasp of those with dark designs.

Now King Taranis, powerful and vainglorious ruler of faerie’s Seelie Court, has leveled accusations against my noble guards of a heinous crime–and has gone so far as to ask the mortal authorities to prosecute. If he succeeds, my men face extradition to faerie and the hideous penalties that await them there. But I know that Taranis’s charges are baseless, and I sense that his true target is me. He tried to kill me when I was a child. Now I fear his intentions are far more terrifying.

What I liked the Least? Really, you just had to take HIM away didn't you.

Review: Just when I was ready to give up on the Merry series, Hamilton out does herself with this 'A Lick of Frost!' I have been a little apprehensive about reading this book because the last two books just didn't seem to move the story forward as much as I would have liked, but this book is the one that makes you go, "YES! this is why I'm reading her books!" I am Princess Meredith, heir to a throne of faerie. My day job, once upon a time, was as a private detective in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, princess has now become a full-time occupation.

My aunt, Queen Andais, will have it no other way. And so I am virtually a prisoner in faerie–trapped here with some of the realm’s most beautiful men to serve as my bodyguards . . . and my lovers. For I am compelled to conceive a child: an heir to succeed me on the throne. Yet after months of amazing sex with my consorts, there is still no baby. And no baby means no throne. The only certainty is death at the hands of my cousin Cel, or his followers, if I fail to conceive.

Now Mistral, Queen Andais’s new captain of the guard, has come to my bed–defying her and risking her terrible wrath in doing so. But even she will hesitate to punish him in jealous rage, because our joining has reawakened old magic, mystical power so ancient that no one stands against it and survives. Not even my strongest and most favored: my Darkness and my Killing Frost. Not even Mistral himself, my Storm Lord. But because Mistral has helped to bring this magic forth, he may live another day.

If I can reclaim control of the fey power that once was, there may be hope for me and my reign in faerie. I might yet quell the dark schemes and subterfuges surrounding me. Though shadows of obsession and conspiracy gather, I may survive.

What I liked the Most? The Sex (it doesn't bother me in this series the main plot line is that Merry must become pregnant before her cousin)

What I liked the Least? The timing - there's too much happening in a single "day"

Review: Merry and her guards are in the dead gardens where once an entire world complete with sun, moon and weather existed. Through sex, Merry & her "dates" make the land come alive again. Merry then finds herself in the Kingdom of the Sluagh - their kingdom is dead too but when she has sex with its king, it comes alive, but not to the darkness of the past.

What I liked the Least? Sometimes the jokes border on patronizing

Series: Meredith Gentry Series, #4

I am Meredith Gentry, P.I., solving cases in Los Angeles, far from the peril and deception of my real home — because I am also Princess Meredith, heir to the darkest throne faerie has to offer. The Unseelie Court infuses me with its power. But at what price does such magic come? How much of my human side will I have to give up, and how much of the sinister side of faerie will I have to embrace? To sit on a throne that has ruled through bloodshed and violence for centuries, I might have to become that which I dread the most.
Enemies watch my every move. My cousin Cel strives to have me killed even now from his prison cell. But not all the assassination attempts are his. Some Unseelie nobles have waited centuries for my aunt Andais, Queen of Air and Darkness, to become weak enough that she might be toppled from her throne. Enemies unforeseen move against us — enemies who would murder the least among us.

The threat will drive us to allow human police into faerie for the first time in our history. I need my allies now more than ever, especially since fate will lead me into the arm of Mistral, Master of Storms, the queen's new captain of her guard. Our passion will reawaken powers long forgotten among the warriors of the sidhe. Pain and pleasure await me — and danger, as well, for some at that court seek only death.

I will find new joys with the butterfly-winged demi-fey. My guards and I will show all of faerie that violence and sex are as popular among the sidhe as they are among the lesser fey of our court. The Darkness will weep, and Frost will comfort him. The gentlest of my guards will find new strength and break my heart. Passions undreamed of await us — and my enemies gather, for the future of both courts of faerie begins to unravel.

What I liked the Least? The short cycle

Review:As usual the men in this book are absolutely fabulous. I enjoyed this one as much as the others & found it hard to put down.

I am kind of hoping she can keep the lot of them when she becomes pregnant! I just can't see Merry giving up any of her beautiful boys - hell if i was the queen I'd be changing the rules. I found the whole series of events happening in the short period of time an interesting take.

All My Books Software

I've been playing around with the All My Books software since I saw it over at J.Kaye's Book Blog.

It is a super easy to use program that basically does all the work for you. Now I know that I just love having everything organized (after all I am a virgo) and with this program I feel like I have found a tool that helps me out, rather than hinders me. You just hit the book + button, type in the name of the book, hit search (I choose Amazon), the program pulls up a list of books with that title and you double click on the one you want. All My Books pulls all the info directly from the hosting site and fills in the blanks. You just tweak the entry.

All My Books - Your Home Library Organizer

Why do you need a home library organizer? You love books. It's obvious by the many tomes on your shelves. And on your end tables. And by your bed. In your car. And that paperback peeking out of the pocket of your purse. You can't get enough of them and probably have accumulated a great number. The chain bookstores call your name, but that little family-owned bookshop around the corner always has something new and interesting, too. Library sales, garage and yard sales, anywhere books are available, you feel at home.

You've spent a lot of money on books, and it was money very well spent because you've gained so much enjoyment from them. So why wouldn't you want a library organizer to help you keep track of them?

All My Books - Collections Large and Small

Many people don't really think of books as collections. Maybe because the word 'collection' often seems to mean things we collect mostly for display or nostalgia, like sports memorabilia or cat figurines. But whether you consider all your books as a collection or not, that's really what it is. You've collected your favorite characters, places, stories and information in the form of the books they inhabit. A library organizer can help you keep track of all of them.

If you don't own many books right now, you're likely to own more in the future, and library organizer software makes it easy for you to catalog them. You have a jumpstart on those with vast collections because you don't have to add 300 books-maybe just 30. Get the right library organizer software and you can be done in no time at all. But chances are you'll spend much more time looking through your collection.

Adding the books is as simple as typing a word or two and making a few clicks. But once you've added your books to the software, you'll want to browse. You'll see the covers and detailed information about each book. You can label the books however you want, and sort them by any criteria you want. You can even add ebooks to your library, to keep all of your print and digital materials cataloged in the same place.

All My Books - Part of a Home Inventory

Books, though we love them, can be costly. Paperbacks that used to cost $1.25 now regularly cost $7 and $8 each. And hardback books can easily cost $30. Once you use great library organizer software, just a quick flip through your library multiplied by those numbers gives an idea of how much money you've spent over the years. If you should ever have to make an insurance claim on the contents of your property, having that database makes it easy to provide. Your books represent a sizable investment that should be included in a claim.

All My Books - Who has What?

And a great perk of good library organizer software is the ability to track loans. You're so busy reading new books, it's easy to forget where you loaned an old one. Library organizer software keeps track for you.

Remember, there is a 30 day Free Trial to trying this program, so you don't have to give them any credit card information up front. It's so easy to use that I'm going to get myself a full version for the price of $34.95.

Meredith Gentry #3

I am Meredith Gentry, P.I. and Princess Merry, heir to the throne of Fairie.
Now there are those among me who whisper I am more.
They fear me even as they protect me.
And who can blame them?
I’ve awakened the dazzling magic that’s slumbered in them for thousands of years.
But the thing is, I can’t figure out why.

My aunt, the Queen of Air and Darkness, is no longer distracted by her usual sadistic hobbies. Her obsession has turned unwaveringly to me. The mission to get me pregnant and beat my cousin Prince Cel to the crown is taking longer than expected. Even though I spend each night with the Queen’s Ravens, my immortal guards, no child has come of our decadent pleasures. But something else is happening. My magic courses through me uncontrollably. And as I lock my half-mortal body with their full-Sidhe blooded ones, the power surges like never before.

It all began with the chalice. I dreamed of it, and it appeared, cool and hard, beside me when I awoke. My guards know the ancient relic well—its disappearance ages ago stripped them of their vital powers. But it is here with us now. My touch resonates with its force, and they’re consumed with it, their Sidhe essences lit up by it. But even as they cherish me for this unexpected gift, there are those who loathe me for it. Me, a mongrel, only half fey and part mortal. The Unseelie court has suffered for so long, and there are some who would not have it weakened further by an impure queen. My enemies grow in number every day. But they do not know what I am capable of. Nor, for that matter, do I. . . .

In Seduced by Moonlight, Laurell K. Hamilton brings the dark, erotic reign of the immortal fey to a startling new depth. Full of sensuality and the consuming anticipation of latent powers unleashed, this world of gods, shapeshifters, and immortal souls is unveiled in all of its supreme magnificence and its treacherous deceits.

I picked this book up because it's part of the series

What I liked the Most? Wow - it's getting hot in here.

What I liked the Least? Can there be too much sex in a non-pornographic book?

Review: Okay - Merry is not only a Faerie Princess, she's so incredibly beautiful that nearly everyone wants her, male and female alike. She has multi-colored eyes, naturally sidhe red hair and skin that moon glows. Of course she has "faults" (Can I have faults like these) such as being too short, too busty, too curvy, too mortal, etc. She's more intelligent than everyone else; she develops powers that are rare and always right when she needs them, and as of the end of this book, she's making people into deities with a kiss or a touch. Added all together, this character should be enough to make you want to stab her and put her out of your misery. The thing is, you don't quite get to that point.

Yes, the plot is predictable, the pacing is at times torturously slow and the characters can be annoying, but for some reason you just can't put it down. Or at least I can't.

Stephanie Plum #2

Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum debuted in Janet Evanovich's award-winning One for the Money. Now she's back, packing a whole lot of attitude — not to mention stun guns, defense sprays, killer flashlights and a .38 Smith & Wesson — on the trail of Kenny Mancuso, a boy from the working class burg of Trenton, who's just shot his best friend. Mancuso's fresh out of the army and suspiciously wealthy. He's also distantly related to Joe Morelli, a vice cop with ethics that lean toward the gray zone, a libido in permanent overdrive, and a habit of horning in on Stephanie's investigations.

Aided by her tough bounty hunter pal, Ranger, and her funeral-happy Grandma Mazur, Stephanie's soon staggering knee-deep in corpses and caskets, trying to shake Morelli ... and stirring up a very nasty enemy ...

I picked this book up because its' the 2nd in a challenge.

What I liked the Most? Grandma yet again

What I liked the Least? All the bumping into and no one managed to hold on? Really? It's like the 3 stooges.

Review:If you thought the first book in this series was good, this one is even better. And if you haven't read the first book, do it. Why did I wait to read these books?

Stephanie Plum is quick becoming my favorite fictional heroine. I just love the way Evanovich writes. The way the story just flies along - and all the subplots and characters are wonderful. She has spunk and a smart mouth, and sometimes that's all it takes.

Stephanie Plum #1

Trenton native Stephanie Plum is out of work, out of money, and her car's in repo-hell. So who does a hardly working girl turn to when the going get tough? Meet cousin Vinnie, bail bondsman. Stephanie figures it's nice work if you can get it - shagging bail jumpers for $10,000 a pop. So she joins up. Not that she knows the first thing about. But hey, beggars can't be choosers.

Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Stephanie knows Joe from the old neighborhood and nothing would please her more than nabbing this bozo. But now the bad news - there's a cranky ex-prize fighter dogging her, unfinished business with Maestro Morelli himself, and a nasty habit she has of leaping first and looking later. If Stephanie doesn't wise up fast, the first dead body she sees could be her own.

I picked this book up because I signed up for the Stephanie Plum Challenge.

What I liked the Most? Grandma is the best character EVER

What I liked the Least? Some of the writing was a little hokey

Review:Stephanie Plum's been laid off from her job as a lingerie buyer for a New Jersey mob owned company, and there are NO jobs for an out of work lingerie buyer. Her Miata gets repossessed, she's pawned everything of value, and her refrigerator is empty. Her father says her cousin Vinnie (a bail bondsman) is hiring for a file clerk and out of desperation, she goes to see him. That job just got filled, but the secretary lets her know that there's an opening for a bounty hunter, and the money well its really good. Stephanie blackmails her cousin into letting her take a case that will pay out $10,000 if she can bring the guy in. However, tt turns out the fugitive is someone she has a long history with. Regular cop gone bad and now he's been arrested for cold-blooded murder. Of course, Stephanie is unbelievably unqualified for this job, but a mixture of desperation, pride, and stubborness take her a long way.

This was a quick, fun read, but there was still plenty of murder and mayhem for most mystery/thriller readers. It was actually a prety funny book, I especially enjoyed the chicken incident with Grandma.

September Full Moon Ritual

September / Harvest Moon - Thanksgiving Ritual

Items Needed for Ritual:
Bowl of Water, White candle, Moon Symbols (if you want to decorate the alter)

Circle Cast
I conjure thee O circle of moonlit magic! So that you will be for me a boundary between myself and all negativity. A safe place of containing peace, joy, and positive forces. I call upon the beings of the east, south, west and north to aid me in the construction of this magical circle. In the name of the Goddess of Night and her Consort, thus do I conjure thee O circle of moonlit Magic. This circle is sealed.

Quarter Call
East
Celestial Winds, come dance and sing; With you, airs of inspiration bring.
Full and rich, to my heart, All your wisdom pray impart.

South
Cosmic Fires, come dance and sing; With you, sparks of cleansing bring.
Full and rich, to my heart, All your strength pray impart.

West
Astral Waters, come dance and sing; With you, waves of insight bring.
Full and rich, to my heart, All your creativity pray impart.

North
Stellar Earth, come dance and sing; With you, soils of flowering bring.
Full and rich, to my heart, All your rooting pray impart.

Center
Shining Spirit, come dance and sing, With you, the magic of harmony bring.
Full and rich, to my heart, All your power pray impart.

Meditation and Visualization
Sit down where you are and breathe deeply. There is no need to rush; now is a time of softness, of quiet knowing. See yourself in your mind's eye as you sit. Above you is a smiling moon, in full glory.

As you look upon the lunar sphere, you see that the light is alive. It dances, and sings a special song. It jumps from the surface like a fire and travels downward to embrace you. The touch is cool, yet warm.

It reaches beyond your skin and saturates every pore, every cell----you are the moonlight; you are the shadow of a star. There is no body now to hold you back. Let your spirit fly with the moon wherever it needs to go. Make notes about this experience afterward in your ritual journal.

Ritual
Goddess of the moon, queen of the night,
keeper of women's mysteries, mistress of the tides,
you who are ever changing and yet always constant,
I ask that you guide me with your wisdom,
help me grow with your knowlege,
and hold me in your arms.

Light the moon candle, and take a moment to reflect upon the gifts you have in your life. Lift the bowl of water towards the sky.
The moon is the symbol of the mother,
and she watches over us day and night.
She brings the changing tide, the shifting night,
the flow that changes women's bodies,
and the passion of lovers to their beloved.
Her wisdom is great and all-knowing,
and we honor her tonight.
Keep your watchful eyes upon us, great mother,
until the cycle returns once more,
and bring us to the next full moon,
in your love and light.

Take a few moments to think about the things in your life which you are thankful for and remember to say Thank You.

Quarter Release
Center
Shining Spirit, your song still sings, And with it now the magic brings.

North
Stellar Earth, your blossoms close, But in my heart their fragrance grows.

West
Astral Waters, your waves subside, Into my heart, there to reside.

South
Cosmic Fires, your sparks wane, But in my heart, they live again.

East
Celestial Winds, your airs fade, But carry the magic, as I bade.

Circle Release
I thank you loving Goddess and your Consort for hearing my words of thanks. I thank the protectors of the north, west, south and east for your help in the construction of this magical circle. I now release the energy and love raised here in this circle out into the universe. I know the universe in its infinite wisdom will provide for me. This circle is open never broken. So mote it be.

Book:Goddess of Light

PC Cast
Romance
Berkley / April 2005

Series: Goddess Summoning #3

Interior designer Pamela Gray has nearly given up on romance. She's tired of controlling egomaniacs. She wants romance and she wants it with someone with real godlike qualities. As she whispers her wish, she unwittingly invokes the Goddess Artemis, who has some tricks up her celestial sleeve...

Twins Artemis and Apollo have been sent to the kingdom of Las Vegas to test their mettle in a world where they are no longer worshiped. The last thing Artemis expected was to be obliged to a mortal through a heartfelt wish—and she demands that her golden brother make that wish a reality. Who better than the handsome and charming God of Light to bring love to this lonely woman?

But Apollo is not quite prepared for this spitfire of a woman in her stiletto heels. Pamela may be a mortal, but she is a goddess in spirit—and in Sin City, where all of life is a gamble, Pamela finds the courage to let go of her fears and love again. After all, you only live once: Or do you?

I picked this book up because I like the title of it & the tag was great.

What I liked the Most? The characters were really good, funny "normal"

What I liked the Least? Now where does the book actually say that it is part of a series, but it was a good stand alone read.

Review: I didn't even really read the back of the book when I picked this one up, hmm it's pretty & I liked the name, so take a chance - right.

Wow - I am blown away. This is the first time I have read anything by PC Cast & I am truly impressed. I loved the quirk she gave to all the characters from Bitchy "Virgin" Artemis to Jealous Bacchus to Jaded, Stunned Pamela (Side note - I abso loved V the lesbian sidekick phone calls true laugh out loud moments).

Now for the story line. Pamela freed herself of her control freak husband 2 years ago and turned herself into massive workaholic who can't remember the name of her last date. She jumps at an interior design job in Vegas for the wonderfully eccentric SciFi write Faust only to be horrified by his request - reproduce the totally tacky Caesear's Palace Forum (created by Bacchus). In Olympus Zeus decides everyone's been moping too long so he opens a portal to Las Vegas for the weekend.

Artemis tries to jump start her brother Apollo, who's been in a rotten mood ever since he was spurned by Persephone (only she was a mortal woman instead).

Things go awry when the nymphs at Bacchus proding - cast an invocation at the ugly fountain, and Pamela unwittingly compltetes it. And then the story gets interesting.
